Children's Privacy and Parental Consent

Mini Ivy is used by children under the direction of their parents. This policy explains what information about a child Learning Ladders Preschool collects through the Service, how a parent gives and withdraws consent, and a parent's rights. It forms part of the Privacy Policy and is written with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind.

Who creates a child's profile

A child cannot create an account. A parent or legal guardian creates their own adult account with a verified email address and then creates a learner profile for each child. The parent chooses the display name shown to the child and the child's grade level. A learner profile has no email address, password or contact details of its own.

What we collect from a child

Through a learner profile we collect only learning activity: which lessons the learner marks complete, the answers given to quick-check and practice questions, and the time of each. We do not ask a child for a name, address, email, telephone number, photograph or any other contact or identifying information. The Service has no chat, messaging, public posting or profile pages, so a child cannot share information with other users through it.

When a learner uses the Service our servers log the network address and browser type of the device, as they do for every visitor, for security and operation only. Where a parent has enabled it, a trusted-device cookie on the family's device lets the child return to their own profile without the parent signing in; it identifies the device to the Service and contains no personal information.

How a child's information is used

Learning activity is used to show the child their own progress, to show the parent and authorized staff how the child is doing, and to improve the lessons and questions in aggregate. We do not use a child's information for advertising, do not sell it, and do not disclose it to third parties except to the service providers named in the Privacy Policy, who process it only on our instructions.

Parental consent

Consent is given by the parent who holds the account. Creating a learner profile is consent to collecting the child's learning activity as described here. Purchasing a subscription for a learner records the parent's acceptance of this policy at the version in force, together with the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy and the Cancellation and Refund Policy. Verifying an email address alone is not consent for a child; consent is given through the signed-in parent account's actions above.

A parent's rights

At any time a parent may review the information held about their child, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent to further collection, which ends the child's use of the Service. Write to contact@mini-ivy.com from the account's registered email; we verify that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it. When a parent asks us to remove a learner profile we deactivate it at once, so it can no longer be used, and an administrator then removes or de-identifies the child's learning records, keeping only what we must for security or legal reasons and telling the parent what that is; copies in routine backups age out on the backup schedule.
