Children's Privacy and Parental Consent

Mini Ivy is used by children under the direction of their parents. This policy explains what information about a child Learning Ladders Preschool collects through the Service, how a parent gives and withdraws consent, and a parent's rights. It forms part of the Privacy Policy and is written with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind.

Who creates a child's profile

A child cannot create an account. A parent or legal guardian creates their own adult account with a verified email address and then creates a learner profile for each child. The parent chooses the display name shown to the child and the child's grade level. A learner profile has no email address, password or contact details of its own.

What we collect from a child

Through a learner profile we collect only learning activity: which lessons the learner marks complete, the answers given to quick-check and practice questions, and the time of each. We do not ask a child for a name, address, email, telephone number, photograph or any other contact or identifying information. The Service has no chat, messaging, public posting or profile pages, so a child cannot share information with other users through it.

When a learner uses the Service our servers log the network address and browser type of the device, as they do for every visitor, for security and operation only. Where a parent has enabled it, a trusted-device cookie on the family's device lets the child return to their own profile without the parent signing in; it is a persistent identifier for that device, stored as a protected token.

How a child's information is used

Learning activity is used to show the child their own progress, to show the parent and authorized staff how the child is doing, and to improve the lessons and questions in aggregate. We do not use a child's information for advertising, do not sell it, and do not disclose it to third parties except to the service providers named in the Privacy Policy, who process it only on our instructions.

Parental consent

Verifying an email address alone is not consent for a child. Payment alone also does not give parental consent. Before learner setup, we email the parent a direct notice and code. The parent enters that code while signed in and affirmatively agrees to the published notices. Five minutes later we send a second email repeating the notice, with instructions to withdraw consent and a new code. The parent confirms the second code to enable learner setup. We record the notice versions, account email and each confirmation time. Codes expire after 24 hours. Unfinished consent requests and their email copies are removed from our consent records 30 days after expiry; the separately requested adult account remains until closed.

This consent covers private learning and necessary service operations only. New uses or disclosures require a new notice and consent. It does not authorize advertising, public posting, recording tutoring sessions or sending children's work to an AI service.

A parent's rights

In Family privacy controls, the signed-in parent can download learning records, remove a learner or withdraw consent for all learners. Name and grade can be corrected in My Household. Withdrawal immediately ends learner access and revokes family-device logins. We cancel the affected online subscriptions and erase names, grades and learning history, normally within 24 hours; a pending status remains visible if a service failure requires a retry. The adult account stays available for billing and privacy requests. Contact contact@mini-ivy.com from your registered email for assistance or account closure.

Detailed learning history is retained for a rolling 365 days to show progress. A learner profile with no activity and no active subscription for 365 days is scheduled for removal. Routine database backups expire after 30 days. Minimal billing and consent evidence is retained separately for accounting and resolving payment or consent disputes; erased learner names, grades and learning records are not retained in that evidence. Payment references may still identify the purchasing adult.
